On 29 July local time, Intel announced plans to invest more than $28 billion to build two new cutting-edge process fabs in Licking County, Ohio, USA. This is compared to Intel in 2022 announced a $20 billion investment in Ohio amount increased by $8 billion.

Intel said the investment will help increase production of cutting-edge processes to meet surging demand for advanced semiconductors, power Intel's next-generation innovations and satisfy foundry customers as part of Intel's IDM 2.0 strategy.

As the largest single private sector investment in Ohio's history, the project is expected to create 3,000 Intel jobs in the initial phase, 7,000 construction jobs during construction, and support tens of thousands of additional local long-term jobs across a broad ecosystem of suppliers and partners.

To support the new fab construction programme, Intel has committed an additional $100 million to work with educational institutions to build a talent pipeline and enhance research programmes in the region.

The information shows that as early as January 2022, Intel has announced two advanced process fabs built in Ohio at a cost of $20 billion. This was followed in September 2022 by an official groundbreaking. At present, the construction progress of Intel's Ohio No. 1 fab is steadily advancing, and is expected to achieve mass production in 2026.

According to reports, Intel Ohio base size up to 1,000 acres (about 404 hectares), enough to support up to eight fabs. This also provides convenient conditions for Intel's subsequent further expansion.

Intel Senior Vice President Randhir Thakur has previously stated that the facility will be "the most advanced fab in the country and on the planet" Thakur is currently leading Intel's new Foundry Services business line, which will be directly supported by the new Ohio manufacturing facility.
